EIGHT THINGS TO READ, WATCH OR LISTEN TO FOR CREATIVE ENERGY.

A steady, flowing creative output needs plenty of input in order to keep running smoothly. We can top up that creative well with lots of different things, including time with friends, regular walks and fresh air - and of course, by consuming the art of others.

creatively inspiring film, book and music recommendations

Topping up your creative well with excellent books, films or songs is doubly effective, because not only are you getting a burst of inspiration, you're also taking the time to rest away from your own art.

Crucially, our subconscious is using that time to get busy working on finding solutions to all the little problems that present in a creative project, meaning that when we return to our own work we feel energised and have a greater sense of clarity.

Here are some of my favourite things to read, watch or listen to when I need to refresh my creative energy and top up that well of inspiration:

Films

- Bohemian Rhapsody

- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

- Sing Street

- Moonrise Kingdom

Books

- 'You Are A Badass', Jen Sincero

- 'The Scorpio Races', Maggie Stiefvater (fiction but ridiculously wonderful writing - I always come away wanting to be a better writer)

Songs

- '27', by Passenger

- 'Non Stop', from the musical Hamilton
